A diaper bag: more than just a diaper holder. I truly feel like good ol’ Mary Poppins when I reach into my bag. Will I pull out a diaper for Lucia or a diaper for me? Which snack will I pull out today? My cute cross body purse is long gone, tucked away in the closet. Everything goes in the diaper bag.. I mean everything.
I decided to go with a backpack style bag and it was the best decision of my life. Throw it on and you don’t have to worry about it falling off your shoulder or swinging in the way of, well, everything. Here are my key items that I always have with me.
/ / Diapers (for Lucia and myself, yes) / /
When you think you have enough diapers packed, pack another 5 more. In the month that Lucia has graced our world we have ran out of diapers not once, but twice. Luckily the first time we were right next to Target and the second we were done our outing for the day, but dang those little buggers shit a lot. As for yourself, the bleeding and peeing doesn’t stop because you leave the house.
/ / Changing Pad / /
My diaper bag came with a little changing mat, but not all do. You never know when or where you’re going to have to change baby (I changed her on a bowling alley couch this weekend) and I don’t always want to put her blanket down.
/ / Extra clothes (for baby and Momma) / /
Spit up happens, poop happens.. it’s life. I change my shirt about 3 times a day the way this girl likes to vomit on me, so I always have to have a backup just in case it’s really THAT bad.
/ / Chapstick / /
You wouldn’t not have chapstick in your purse right? Right. But I find myself needing it a bit more now that I shhhhh every time little mama cries because that’s the only way she’ll calm down. Right now I’m obsessed with EOS Lip Balm Sticks. I always loved the EOS, but hated the little balls. I just found these sticks at Target and I cannot get enough!
/ / Hand Sanitizer / /
People are disgusting and frankly I don’t want nasty germs around my little munchkin. I wash my hands a ridiculous amount at home, so when I’m out I’m even more of a germaphobe.
/ / Hand Lotion / /
Washing my hands so much causes quite a bit of dryness…
/ / All the Snacks / /
You never know when you’re going to be stuck in the back seat of your car nursing for a half hour && nursing is tiring. I make sure I have a variety of high protein snack, carby snacks, and candy (sometimes mom needs a treat). Some of my favorite snacks include Belvita Blueberry Biscuits, Trader Joe’s Chocolate Chip Granola Bars, and these Coconut Clusters (which also go great in oatmeal).
I think that’s about it as far as what I absolutely cannot live without in my diaper bag. I also have butt paste, but Lucia doesn’t really need it. Gum is also a good && water. But I drink too much water to keep it in a bag, my bottle is attached to my hip!
Leave a comment down below on your key items for your diaper bag!
Until next time friends,
Makenzie

Now that I am on my 3rd little, my purse has turned into a diaper bag! I haven’t carried a “diaper bag” since my oldest was born 4 years ago! And she had 4 different ones! Lol. Now ,my purse is full of diapers, wipes, and snacks! Along with whatever else my kids have thrown in there for me to find later.

Extra clothes for mom is a must that so many of us (myself included) don’t realize! If I knew that when my son was a newborn, I would have saved myself many trips cut short to go home to change and the embarrassment of toughing it out and looking and smelling like a mess!

Great post!! What kind of diaper bag do you have? I changed to a backpack style once I had my second little and it is life-changing indeed! And what kind of stroller is in your photo at the top? I’m a stroller freak!
Also, LOVE the name Lucia. My oldest is Lucy. 🙂

It’s Laura Ashley, from BabysRUs! I absolutely love it. The stroller is a Graco, I’m definitely going to try a different one. The wheels on it are kind of funky and hard to push.
And thank you! I love both names. I like Lucy but I didn’t think hubs would go for it.
